When I had a full-time job I was able to read more than I’ve been able to read while writing full-time. My old job was at a call center and we didn’t always have back to back calls or other things to fill our time. In the first 6 months of the year when I worked there I was able to read 130 books, crochet a huge afghan, and a crochet a baby blanket for a friend.

Since I quit I’ve read maybe 10 books.

It’s so easy to have Netflix playing in the back ground while I write, I get varying degrees of writing done depending upon the show (I evidently can’t write while Bones is on but put Deep Space 9 on and I’ll do anything to avoid watching that show). I haven’t yet found a way to read while I’m writing. I could try giving myself goals, if I write ____ amount of words then I can read a chapter. The only problem with that is that if the book grabs me I won’t put it down to write. Seriously I’ve had to stop starting books in the evening because if it’s good I won’t put it down and next thing I know it’s 4 o’clock and I have to get up for work in 3 hours. Finishing a book should have a more positive feeling than finishing an entire season of a TV show though, right now I just get fed up with myself when that happens.

“Way to go self you just watched 22 episodes of a TV show you’ve seen multiple times.”

I guess I’ll try giving myself goals and see how that goes.

I’m horrible at keeping goals I’ve given myself, I’m a very understanding task master and I know that about myself. I’ll accept the flimsiest of excuses.
