Gunmetal Magic by Ilona Andrews

I am a huge Ilona Andrews fan. As in when I’m reading one of their books I get so wrapped up in them I forget to eat. I never forget to eat. I always find myself wishing I read slower, wanting the book to last forever, but looking down and watching as the bar at the bottom of my kindle moves farther and farther. I don’t remember exactly when I started reading them or how I found their books, it was probably a recommendation from Amazon, but when I did find them I read everything that I could get my hands on. I’ve reread several of their books and they were in fact the only author that when all the publishing companies weren’t putting their books on kindle I actually bought a physical copy of Magic Bleeds. So it’s safe to say that I really like Ilona Andrews and I look forward to each of her book releases.

Surprisingly, or not if you read one of my previous posts, it took me some time to read Gunmetal Magic. I preordered it and it just sat on my kindle for quite some time before I read it. It wasn’t until I started reading it that I realized that I had put it off because as long as it was there it was something new that they had written that I hadn’t read and as soon as I was done I would have to go back to waiting. Needless to say I devoured the book and now I have to wait until November 27, 2012 for Steel’s Edge to come out.

Gunmetal Magic is set in the Kate Daniels world but the main character is her best friend Andrea. Andrea has got her own messed up past, and while it isn’t anywhere near the scale of Kate’s it has got its moments. The romance between her and Raphael is unique and I was never sure what was going to come next with them.

I loved this book and I can’t wait to read more books in this series, whether they’re about Kate or others in her universe. They are always so well written, and reading this after having just finished writing my first book, makes me realize just how much I have left to learn and grow as an author.
