One Star Review

Woke up early this morning and for some reason instead of just rolling over and going back to sleep, I decided to look at Episode One’s Amazon page. It had been a couple days and I was worried that they had done something and that’s why I hadn’t had any downloads in the last few days. Nope that wasn’t it. I am now the owner of my first one star review.

Since I’ve only got one other review, a five star, my average is now down to three. Really bummed out about that.

The review complains about the length and style. Both things I knew I would probably get reviewed on since it’s an episodic series written in first person. Based on other people I know of with episodic series, getting a review about the length is common. Evidently even if you put a disclaimer in your blurb, which I did, it doesn’t matter.

I had hoped when this happened I would have accumulated more reviews and a one star wouldn’t be a huge impact. I was wrong. Even with a plea for reviews at the end of each episode I’ve only had two.

It doesn’t really help that the review is, in one place, misspelled.

Positive, they didn’t bad mouth the editing, though the way the review is written some people might imply bad editing.

I think I’m just going to go back to sleep now.

  1. Hey there, cheer up you, that’s an order ๐Ÿ™‚

    A couple of things here:
    1) Wow, the review did have a lot of typos… it’s the sort of review that challenges people to download your book to see for themselves, especially since it’s “to short.”
    2) In time, you’ll have more reviews, and it’ll balance out.
    3) One thing she can’t do is review the books you’ve never written — keep on writing, leave them in your dust. Forward thinking, not backwards thinking. Race vs. Marathon, Coke vs. Pepsi.

Life’s too short to be bummed about bad weather. That’s all a bad review is — bad weather. Do you take it personally when some cloud comes floating by dropping all that messy water all of your house? Course not. Same with bad reviews, or it should be. Easy for me to say, I know, but when it’s my turn to get rained on I hope you’ll pop by to cheer me up ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Thank you so much for a positive kick in the ass. It means a lot coming from another Indie that I consider a friend.
Also, I do take it very personally when a cloud comes around messing up my day. I don’t know how many times I’ve found myself, standing in the middle of my yard, rain pouring down, fist in the air, screaming at those stupid clouds. Oh wait, no, I’ve got that backwards. I love rain. It means I don’t have to water all the plants my mom’s planted in my yard.
Thank you for the encouraging words ๐Ÿ™‚
