Days I didn’t Write but should have: 1
I kind of had a word goal, but not really. I needed to finish writing the first book in my new series as well as finish the short prequel. The rest of the month was dedicated to editing.
I made my goal by the skin of my teeth. It was pretty rough and I got to the point where I could barely stand what I was reading. Not because it was bad, though, honestly I don’t think it’s my best, but because I’d been so deep into it for so long. I just wanted it over and out there and now I feel ill.
The book isn’t bad and there was a lot of set up for the rest of the series, but it’s not as action packed as my last one. I’ve also had two people unsubscribe from my mailing list and that was a blow to my confidence. Combine that with the fact that August was the lowest month I’ve had since I released my Sci-Fi romance book series and I’m feeling deflated.
I have three books left in these two series, at least, and I’m going to finish them, but it’s getting difficult. I don’t dislike what I’m writing, not all of the time anyway. I just wish I was writing something else, though, when I try to think of that something else all I get are new ideas for my Sci-Fi romance brand.

Huge decline even from last month, which was a decline from the previous. I didn’t publish anything this month though. Well, I published a short, but I made it free. I ended up publishing on September 1st the first book of a new, tie-in series. I’m hoping that causes an increase in sales.
Marketing wise, I applied for and was declined for a Bookbub. I applied for an ENT but never heard back. I’m debating applying again and if I should do a free book. Doing the math, I would need at least 1% of the average free downloads to read my next book to make up the cost. 1% isn’t much, but I have no clue what my read through rate is on a free download. Roughly 30% of the people that purchased my first book, bought my second, so that’s something at least. I have no idea if that’s bad or good, though.
I signed up for another bknights promo, this time with the first book in a series. Hopefully that will also provide a little boost. I’ve also decided to go wide with my books. I’m going to do an initial 90 days Amazon exclusive and then try Draft to Digital. I’m just waiting for the first book in my series to fall out of KU and it won’t until October. For now the second book in my series is already out, but I do get a few people buying it so that’s nice.
My writing goal is to continue writing 2k words Monday through Friday. I did pretty good last month with that, and because of it I made a schedule for the rest of the year. If I keep it up, I’ll have the next two books written and published, plus a Christmas thing that has nothing to do with my universes but that I already partially wrote last year and really like the idea for. I’ve given myself some room to work with, but the goal is to publish something every month. If I could start making enough money to pay off some debt and help with monthly stuff, that would be awesome.
I’m going to try and do better with marketing, even if it’s just a bknights promo every month, something is better than nothing, right?
Once I finish the next three books I’m not sure what I’ll do. I can certainly keep coming up with Sci-Fi romance ideas but maybe I’ll do a straight up Space Opera. Or a cozy mystery. Or Urban Fantasy. Or a Superhero story.
I DON’T KNOW!!!!!
The possibilities are endless!!!
